Chiefs Pro Bowl OT John Alt
QUARTERBACK INSTRUCTORS

Feature Instructor: Terry Shea (Former KC Chiefs QB Coach)

Shea has coached at the NFL level for each of the past eight years, working for four different organizations. As quarterbacks coach of the Kansas City Chiefs from 2001-2003 and again from 2005-2006, Shea helped resurrect the career of quarterback Trent Green. In both the 2003 and 2005 seasons, while under Shea’s tutelage, Green threw for over 4,000 yards and was invited to the Pro Bowl. In 2004, Shea was named offensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears. Shea spent the last two NFL seasons as a quarterbacks coach, with the Miami Dolphins (2007) and St. Louis Rams (2008).

Shea has been integral in the development of numerous successful professional quarterbacks, such as Green, Jeff Garcia, Brady Quinn, and Mike McMahon.

Lynn Dickey (Former All-Pro Green Bay Packer Quarterback)

Lynn Dickey will make the trip to Kansas City to help teach the quarterbacks at the KC festival, not far from where he made his own tremendous mark as a youngster himself. Dickey was a starter for the Green Bay Packers for the better part of nine seasons, from 1976 through 1985. In his time with the Pack, Dickey was named to as part of the NFL's All Pro team in 1983, when he threw for an incredible 4458 yards and 32 touchdowns, both good for the best in the league. Dickey's service in Green Bay earned him a spot in the Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame, and he remains the third leading passer in team history, behind only Bart Starr and Brett Favre.

Before playing with the Packers, Dickey spent four years with the Houston Oilers, who selected him in the 3rd round of the 1971 NFL Draft out of Kansas State University. It was while at KSU that Dickey had his greatest impact on the game, earning the nod as the Associated Press' All-Time Big Eight Quarterback when the conference expanded to form the Big 12 in 1996. His career passing record stood for 38 years in Manhattan, before recent first round pick Josh Freeman broke it in 2008. In addition, his number eleven jersey, shared by another KSU great Steve Grogan, is the only jersey ever retired by the Kansas State Wildcat football program.

Lynn currently works with Sports Radio 810 in Kansas City, and is also a member of the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame.

Joe Dickinson (DSU Senior Instructor)

DSU resident expert Joe Dickinson leads the Steve Clarkson QB school having worked with several of DSU's most notable clients. Dickinson is the former offensive coordinator at Oklahoma University and was on staff in 1985 when the Sooners won the National Championship. Under Barry Switzer, Dickinson worked with future Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman.

Dickinson has worked on staff at several other Division 1 football programs, including Tulane, Marshall, and Tulsa. At Tulane, Dickinson recruited and helped develop two quarterbacks who would go on to become first round NFL draft picks: J.P. Losman and Patrick Ramsey.

Recently, Dickinson has been entrusted with some of DeBartolo Sports University's best clients. He's worked with Tampa Bay Buccaneer and first round NFL Draft Pick Josh Freeman, former Arizona State QB Rudy Carpenter, and a pair of future college stars, USC's Matt Barkley and Dayne Crist of Notre Dame.

Joe Hatcher (Former Kansas State QB)

Joe was an outstanding two sport athlete in high school and QB at Kansas State. He has coached at the collegiate and professional levels in football and received the Tri-State Coach of the year in 1994 for coaching youth.

WIDE RECEIVER INSTRUCTORS

Feature Instructor: Jon Embree (Former KC Chiefs TE Coach)

Embree has been a tight ends coach at the college and professional level for over 20 years. Most recently, Embree was tight ends coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, and helped legendary Chiefs’ tight end Tony Gonzalez continue his run as one of the league’s best pass catchers.

During stops as an assistant head coach, wide receivers coach, and tight end coach at UCLA and Colorado, Embree helped develop some of the best tight ends in the country.

Under Embree’s tutelage, two players won the John Mackey Award, an honor given annually to college football’s most outstanding tight end: Daniel Graham of Colorado in 2001 and Marcedes Lewis of UCLA in 2005. Both players would go on to be selected in the first two rounds of the NFL Draft.

Jon himself was a standout in the collegiate ranks, finishing his career in the university's top five all time in receptions and receiving yards. He would earn All Big Eight first team as a sophomore, and play two seasons in the National Football league.

Paul Coffman (Former Green Bay Packers TE)

Starting as a walk-on tight end at Kansas State, Coffman worked relentlessly and developed into a very productive NFL tight end. In 11 NFL seasons, Coffman racked up 42 touchdowns and over 4,000 receiving yards, during an era where the tight end was not used too often in the passing game. He is a member of the Green Bay Packers Hall Of Fame.

He helped his son, Chase, emerge as one of the best tight ends in the NCAA. Chase enjoyed a stellar career at the University of Missouri, receiving the Mackey Award this past season as the nation’s top tight end. Chase was recently selected in the third round of the NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals.

Paul has coached youth football for seven years, with 5 seasons at Ray-Pec High School.

OFFENSIVE LINEMEN INSTRUCTORS

Featured Instructor: John Alt (Former KC Chiefs Pro Bowl OL)

Alt received rave reviews for his work with offensive lineman at our Chicago academy. A two-time Pro Bowl selection at offensive tackle, Alt spent all of his 13 years in the NFL as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs. He started 149 games in his career, and helped anchor Kansas City's offensive line throughout several playoff runs.

Alt was inducted into the Chiefs' Hall of Fame in 2002. A first round pick in the 1984 NFL Draft, Alt played his college ball at the University of Iowa, Alt was named AP All American Honorable Mention and 1st Team All-Big Ten in his senior season in 1983

Ray Hitchcock (Former Washington Redskins OL)

Hitchcock brings even more NFL experience to our Kansas City academy, having played for the Washington Redskins in the 1980s. He played his college ball at the University of Minnesota, and is currently the volunteer offensive line coach at Cretin-Derham High School in St. Paul, Minnesota. At the school, he has helped turn Offensive Tackle Seantrel Henderson into the top recruit in the nation.

Despite his current career in real estate, Hitchcock relishes in the opportunity to coach young athletes into better performers, and, perhaps more importantly, better people.

Ricky Siglar (Former KC Chiefs OL)

Another lineman with NFL experience, Siglar played nine years in the NFL, spending five of those seasons with the Chiefs. Siglar brings a championship pedigree to DSU, as he was a member of the 1989 Super Bowl Champion San Francisco 49ers. During his time in KC, Ricky emerged as a standout on an already impressive Chiefs offensive line, starting in 34 games and helping the Chiefs deep into the playoffs.

Siglar is very involved in the community as well. He and his wife have a non profit organization called C.A.T.C.H. (Caring Athletes Touching Children’s Hearts) to which they devote a lot of time and energy. Ricky is also involved with the Urban Youth Development which helps to put programs and fundraisers together to reach out to the youth in the inner city.

DEFENSIVE LINEMEN INSTRUCTOR

Jeff Tupper (Former Oklahoma DE)

Tupper started at defensive end at Oklahoma, and was an integral part of their 1985 National Championship team. He went on to played for three years in the NFL and has coached youth for 13 years, 6 seasons at Blue Valley High School. Like all of our instructors, Tupper has learned skills from some of the best coaches in the world, and is ready to pass that knowledge on to young athletes.

LINEBACKER INSTRUCTOR

Ron Freeman (Former All-American Linebacker)

Ron was an All-American at Pitt State University prior to playing in the USFL. Ron has coached at the high school and college level for over a decade. He currently co-directs the Greater Kansas City High School Combine, one of the biggest events of its kind in the region. Ron’s son, Josh, was selected in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

DEFENSIVE BACKS INSTRUCTOR

J.C. Pearson (Former KC Chiefs DB)

Pearson had a stellar NFL career, playing for eight seasons, seven of which he spent as a starter on a stout Chiefs’ defense. J.C. is a great example of a hard work success story, having gone from an undrafted free agent out of the University of Washington to a key member of the Chiefs. Nowadays, Pearson is best known as an NFL color commentator, teaming with play-by-play man Matt Vasgersian on Fox NFL broadcasts.
