Staff Writer

| More
QBs from 11 different States and Mexico traveled to Saddlebrook Resort for one final tune-up before heading into fall practice. Coaches Joe Dickinson, Joe McCulley, Paulette Ngu, and Jason Riley worked with the participants each day refining every aspect of the QB position. From their QB skills to their core strength and flexibility to the mental side of the game, each participant left a better QB.

Special appearances by Tampa Bay Buccaneers Josh Freeman and Sammie Stroughter highlighted the week. They worked with each of the participating QBs and WRs and also demonstrated what it takes to compete at the highest level of football. Days away from the start of their own training camp, we appreciate them taking the time to attend our program.

To the participating QBs: It was remarkable to see the improvement in each of you from Day 1 to Day 5. We hope that you take what you learned in this camp with you into your upcoming season and that it leads to great successes for you.

To the parents of the QBs: We recognize the commitment you made to make this experience possible for your son, and we thank you for that. Please keep us updated on the success of your son throughout the upcoming season.

We welcome each QB to the DSU Fraternity and look forward to watching all of you this upcoming season.

Straight from the Coach's desk, here are a few comments on each of the participants from the July 25-31 Elite QB Academy at Saddlebrook Resort:

QB Travis Ball

Travis Ball (Southlake Carroll HS - Southlake, TX)

Most thought he was the most improved QB from Day 1. This was his first camp with us (DSU), and you can tell he really loves the game of football, just like the rest of the athletes from Southlake Carroll. He will get much more comfortable as we see him more and I expect him to be a real factor in the coming years.

QB Kedric Bostic

Kedric Bostic (Jupiter Christian School - Jupiter, FL)

Once he relaxed his shoulders, he became a very smooth QB. He has the size and talent to be one the best QBs for 2011. He can make all the throws and this week showed everyone in attendance why he is Division 1 recruit.

QB Jose Miguel Chavez

Jose Miguel Chavez (Mexico)

Jose is the best high school QB that I have ever seen from Mexico. He has a lot of spin and velocity on his throws and is overall very athletic. He should be a legend in Mexico as a QB. If he desired, he could come to the States and play college football.

QB Richie Chute

Richie Chute (Victor HS - Victor, NY)

He's got the one thing that you can't coach...size. Still learning the game after starting his junior season, he is very strong and an extremely dedicated worker. He should take off this year and have a big season.

QB Josh Cousins,

Josh Cousins (Liberty Christian School - Denton, TX)

Without a doubt, he is a 2012, Division 1 recruit. He already has the size and arm strength to be a highly recruited player. He is a very smooth operator and has won many MVP awards at several different camps this summer. Look for him to have a huge Junior season!

QB Augie DeBiase

Augie DeBiase (Providence School - Jacksonville, FL)

One of, if not the best 7th grader in the Nation. He throws the big ball like most 7th grade QBs throw the small ball. Better footwork is what he is working on now, which will separate him from the rest of the QBs his age. During his workouts he often throws to NFL receivers.

QB Bruno Devito

Bruno Devito (West Hempstead HS - West Hempstead, NY)

Reminds me a lot of camp legend and University of Arizona commit Daxx Garman when I first met him. He can really spin it. He has great feet, but needs to continue to work on his arc...the sky is the limit for him.

QB Jay Fields

Jay Fields (Kingwood Park HS - Kingwood Park, TX)

He's really starting to get it. As he continues to smooth out his motion everything will fall into place. His ball is really spinning. At this point, his drop back and footwork is really good and he has the size that people are looking for. Jay has been to many camps with us before, but really caught the attention of our new QB Coach Joe McCulley. Jay has a ton of knowledge in the classroom.

QB Dylan Hatchel

Dylan Hatchel (Hennessey HS - Hennessey, OK)

One of five QBs that followed us from the camp in Oklahoma to the camp at Saddlebrook. As a QB, he got a ton of mileage out of the experience. He is a really tough young man and has a lot of good years ahead, as a freshman should. He will train hard with Coach McCulley and be a bigtime player. Note: as a 7th and 8th grade QB, he never lost a game.

QB Isaac Kay

Isaac Kay (Houston, TX)

There is not a QB in the country who has spent more time in the last 6 weeks working on their QB skills than this young freshman. He has great drop back talent and the size and skills to be one of the futures best. He is really starting to smooth it out and is taking off.

QB Keaton Lewis

Keaton Lewis (Kapaun Mt. Carmel - Wichita, KS)

Lewis has made unbelievable improvements this past year, and looked like a big-time player this past week. He has received his first Division 1 offer and I expect many more to follow. He is very athletic and can really run and move his feet. He will have a monster senior year.

QB TJ Menning

TJ Menning (Bishop Manogue Catholic HS - Reno, NV)

This QB has incredible upside: already very talented, he has the size and arm strength to go very far in this game. Without a doubt, he is a D1 QB and I look forward to taking him to the top. He showed flashes of greatness during our Shawnee camp and really took his game this week at Saddlebrook to another level. Note: he won nearly every competition he was part of during camp.

QB Louie Papas

Louie Pappas (Tarpon Springs HS - Tarpon Springs, FL)

Has been to three camps with us in the last year. This camp, he really shortened his release stride to get ride of the football faster. He is very savvy and confident which is very important for a QB. I expect him to be a top QB recruit from Florida in 2012.

QB Greg Purdy

Gregory Purdy (Charlotte Country Day - Charlotte, NC)

Once he settled down, this very talented 6th grader had a very nice camp. As the week went on he really learned how to let it spin. He is very sharp and a great young man to be around. You can tell he really loves the game!

QB Ronnie Quaranta

Ronnie Quaranta (Cardinal Mooney HS - Youngstown, OH)

He first arrived at camp in June, but really took off this past week. Really good footwork and very smooth in all his drops and releases. As he gets older, he will get stronger and be one of the top QBs from Ohio in his class. Looked really good at camp.

QB Pierre Roddy

Pierre Roddy (Coon Rapids High School - Coon Rapids, MN)

Pierre is an incredibly athletic player. During the week he developed a real understanding of the QB techniques. He has a very live arm and if he continues to put the time in and develop, I expect that he will be a very successful QB.

QB Quinn Shanbour

Quinn Shanbour (Bishop McGuinness HS - Oklahoma City, OK)

He is a very smart and powerful QB from Oklahoma, and I can't wait to continue to train him. He has a short, quick release that reminds me a lot of Rhett Bomar's throwing motion. In the Sooner state, Shanbour should be one of the best juniors. Really came on strong at the end of the week.

QB Sammy Silver

Sammy Silver (Southlake Carroll HS - Southlake Carroll, TX)

This elite freshman can really spin it. Plays at the mecca where QBs keep rolling through. He has worked very hard this summer to smooth out his drops and throws and has started to develop a real understanding of the complete game. Look out for him!

QB Caden Walters

Caden Walters (Sacred Heart Catholic - Dodge City, KS)

When he grows tall to be like his dad, look out. For a QB his age, he has an incredibly live arm and really fit in well with the older QBs at the camp. He was really comfortable playing 7v7 throwing verses a high school defense.

QB John Wilder

John Wilder (Henderson HS - Henderson, TX)

One word sums it up for him...smooth. He can make all the throws required at the D1 level. He will blow up this year from off the radar to be one of the best QBs for 2011. Keep your eyes this year on Henderson, TX.
