The Outback Bowl Youth Football Clinic was created by DeBartolo Sports University to help raise money for the DeBartolo Family Foundation which annually awards over $300,000 to non-profit organizations and individuals in the Tampa Bay community.

Highligting the event were Tampa Bay Buccaneer Quarterbacks Josh Freeman and Josh Johnson, and football legends “Fast” Freddie Solomon, Steve DeBerg, Mark Royals, Richard “Batman” Wood, Dave Green, Tony Mayberry, and Jorge Diaz.

Says Susan Johnson, the mother of one of the camp participants, "This was an amazing experience for my son, he will be talking about this for a long time" she continues, "He has already asked if he can attend next year’s (Outback Bowl Youth Football) camp."

Adds Nancy Bohannon, "We used this as a Christmas gift for Jacob. Everyone was so engaged and it was great to see Josh Freeman, Josh Johnson, Freddie (Solomon), and Steve DeBerg coaching these kids and supporting the community" She continues, "Catching a pass from Josh Freeman made this experience even more special".

The event was made possible through corporate sponsorship by the Hard Rock Cafe Tampa, the Laser Spine Institute, TAMCO Foundation, Crown Facets, Brighthouse Sports Network, Wells Fargo, Hahn Loeser & Parks LLP, Outback Steakhouse, Northwestern Mutual, Win3 Marketing, Mazas Design Gallery, Spark, the Park Shopping Center, and Ciccio and Tony's.

The Outback Bowl Youth Football Clinic's presenting sponsor was the new Hard Rock Cafe Tampa. Located at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel, it officially opened to the public on January 12, 2011 with a star-studded Grand Opening celebration.

“We are extremely thankful for the generosity of all the sponsors of the first Outback Bowl Youth Clinic,” said Brian Kopp, President of DeBartolo Sports and Events. “The clinic was a great experience for kids in the Tampa Bay area, and the support will help benefit the great work the DeBartolo Family Foundation does in our community.”

There were 14 Tampa Bay area organizations represented at the event including:  Best Buddies, New Bright and Morningstar Church, University Area Community Development Corporation, Life Enrichment Center, Valrico Rams Youth Football, Big Brothers Big Sisters Tampa, Tamco Foundation, Positive Spin, the Boys and Girls Club of Tampa Bay, the Brandon Bears, The Children's Home, A Good Start, and the Tampa Bay Youth Football League.  Nearly all of the participants came from one of these organizations.
