The half-day clinic was held on Tuesday, December 27, 2011, and was part of the Outback Bowl’s week-long schedule of events leading up to the game played at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla.

The Outback Bowl Youth Football Clinic presented by the Hard Rock Cafe Tampa and hosted at the University of South Florida, was an interactive, experienced based program that provided kids the opportunity to learn football fundamentals and sportsmanship from current and former NFL stars supported by expert trainers. The activities were designed so that each student could participate regardless of current skill sets, position or playing experience.

Appearances by local football legend and 2x Super Bowl winner "Fast" Freddie Solomon, Tampa Bay Storm players Amarri Jackson, Cliff Dukes, Eric Ortiz, and Jarriett Buie, and various former Tampa Bay Buccaneers highlighted the event.

“The Outback Bowl is proud to continue its relationship with DeBartolo as the host of our Team Luncheon and the Outback Bowl Youth Football Clinic,” noted Bowl President/CEO Jim McVay. “This clinic was a great opportunity for young athletes to experience top-notch instruction. And the Outback Bowl appreciates the support of the Hard Rock Cafe as well as the wonderful work of the DeBartolo Family Foundation.”

Created in 2001 by members of the Edward J. DeBartolo, Jr. family, the DeBartolo Family Foundation awards more than $300,000 annually to non-profit organizations and individuals in the Tampa Bay community. In addition to the on-field program, the Outback Bowl Youth Football Clinic also participated in "Replay Tampa Bay", a program to help local kids through the donation of new or gently used sporting goods. Individuals could donate items at one of three Elder Automotive locations in the Tampa Bay area. Those who gave received a voucher for a complimentary small Papa John’s Pizza and a complimentary McDonald’s McCafe beverage in addition to being entered into drawings for special prizes, such as suite tickets to local sporting events. As a result of this drive, every child that participated in the clinic was able to leave the event with a new piece of sports equipment.

“We are extremely thankful for the generosity of all the sponsors of the Outback Bowl Youth Clinic,” said Brian Kopp, President of DeBartolo Sports and Events. “The clinic was a great experience for kids in the Tampa Bay area, and the support will help benefit the great work the DeBartolo Family Foundation does in our community.”

This event was made possible through corporate sponsorship and proceeds benefited the DeBartolo Family Foundation. Sponsors of the event included: the Hard Rock Cafe Tampa, as well as Bright House Sports Network, Ciccio and Tony's, the Tampa Bay Sports Commission, Saddlebrook Resort, Jim Henning, Bryce Kenney, John Byczek, Gries Investment Funds, Mercedes Benz of Tampa, TAMCO Foundation, Spark, Hahn Loeser and Parks LLP, nawgan, Northwestern Mutual, the Laser Spine Institute, Replay Tampa Bay, DeBartolo Sports and Events, and Wells Fargo for their support of the DeBartolo Family Foundation and this community program.
