Keaton Lewis, Kapaun Mt. Carmel HS - Wichita, KS
Kansas QB Poised For Breakout Senior Season
Keaton Lewis may be one of the best kept secrets in the class of 2011 quarterbacks.
Last season, in what was a hard fought quarterback competition at Kapaun Mt. Caramel Catholic High School in Wichita, KS, the 6’2”, 175lbs senior-to-be claimed the starting role for the final six games.
He did not disappoint, going on to lead his team to a 43 point per game average (a dramatic increase from the 15 points per game the team was averaging through the first four games).
In what is still an early offseason, Lewis is garnering the interest of several college programs. An above average student in the classroom, Ivy League schools (including Yale) have taken notice of his talents on and off the field. Adding to his list of interested programs are in-state schools Kansas State and Kansas along with Northwestern and Texas Christian. With a successful campaign in 2010, Lewis’s pick of schools should increase.
At the invite only Elite QB Academy at Saddlebrook Resort, Lewis had the opportunity to meet and workout for Tom Lemming (host of televisions; “Tom Lemming’s Generation NEXT” and editor of the “Prep Football Report”). He made a very nice impression during his evaluation and was one of the few prospects to catch his eye. Lewis was in good company at this camp that was attended by several rising stars including: Paul Millard (Flower Mound, TX), Ryan Polite (Desoto, TX), Daxx Garman (Southlake Carroll, TX), Justin Combs (New York, NY), Nelson Fishback (Durham, CA), and Sam Spence (Charlotte, NC)
Lewis has spent the last year refining his quarterback mechanics with private Quarterback Coach Joe Dickinson. At his latest workout in Oklahoma City, Lewis wasn’t shy about showing off his arm strength and overall technical improvement. In what turned into an impressive demonstration, the 2nd Team All-City Quarterback looked like a well seasoned quarterback hitting 30 yard out routes with pinpoint precision and ease.
Says Dickinson, “Keaton (Lewis) is an absolute gamer that will play at the Division 1 level”. He continues, “He (Lewis) is one of the best kept secrets in the country and has the athleticism, throwing skills and mental knowledge to be very successful at the quarterback position.”
Recruiters and fans take note, in 2010 “The Air Capital of the World” will become known for the air show that Lewis looks to put on each week of the upcoming season.
